Florist adds style to Straub's

Scott Hepper is his name and flowers are his game.

Hailing from the Napa Valley area in California, Hepper brings a certain level of style and sophistication to the Webster Groves Straub’s floral department, 211 W. Lockwood Ave.

Working daily with his Amsterdam flower broker, Hepper receives shipments of flowers from all over the world to edge his creativity and distinction from most floral shops.“You won’t find carnations or baby’s breath in this store, ever,” Hepper said. “There are over 10,000 different dynamic flowers that don’t cost any more. For someone to throw carnations or baby’s breath together is basic.”

Sweet History

Baseball fever may be St. Louis' most obvious epidemic. But there's another, more subtle but just as addictive obsession harbored by many of us dyed-in-the-wool St. Louisans, and that is our shared sweet tooth for the cakes and pastries of yesteryear.

Luckily, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Much like the old Busch Stadium begat the new Busch Stadium, a number of local stores today are committed to carrying the signature sweets from other, now-defunct shops.

(St. Louis, MO): Gretchen Morfogen has joined Straub’s Markets as Director of Culinary Operations where she will create management systems for business growth and assist in preparing for the opening of Straub’s fifth store in Ellisville, MO in summer 2008.

(St. Louis, MO): Jeff Watkin has joined Straub’s Markets as Graphic Designer. He will be based in the Clayton Straub’s Corporate Office and handle all graphics for the four-store, and soon to be five-store, chain.
